Social long-term care insurance
The long-term care insurance fund (Pflegekasse) is attached to every statutory health insurance fund (Krankenkasse) and administers the benefits of social long-term care insurance under Social Code Book XI (Sozialgesetzbuch Elftes Buch, SGB XI). It finances care benefits for people who need help due to physical, cognitive or mental impairments.
The Pflegekasse covers Pflegegeld (long-term care allowance), benefits in kind, respite care (Verhinderungspflege), care aids, home adaptation and much more — depending on the care grade (Pflegegrad 1–5).
